I remember having a music box as a kid that we kept on the piano. I loved that it always felt like the song was in there, just waiting to be let out when you opened the lid, but it wasn’t the kind of song you’d want to listen to for more than a minute (I forget what it was - probably “Ode to Joy”). I wish my parents had thought to rig up the living room like this instead, with a big birdlike latticework that would whir along day and night. It feels like 40 different birds having nearly the same thought at the same time, and just bursting to tell each other. (By way of the great exotic music & images blog Ephemera.) - Tim
